Histology Technician New York Cancer Specialists (NYCBS), a prominent and respected Oncology/Hematology group, is seeking a
Histology Technician to join a well-established and growing pure sub-specialty practice with academic affiliation. Clinics from Southampton to NYC. Practice manages a freestanding outpatient 7-day per week Cancer Center with extensive chemotherapy administration, Radiation Oncology, Pharmacy and Research department.
In this role you will:
- Perform routine and non-routine activities involved in the preparation of slides, for microscopic evaluation by a pathologist(s).
- Ensure proper accessioning and labeling of all tissue samples.
- Process paperwork associated with accessioning and reporting.
- Ensure proper tissue processing, embedding, and microtomy.
- Perform cover slipping of stained slides either manually or automated.
- Perform recuts requested by a Pathologist.
- Prepare solutions and reagents for stain procedures.
- Perform stains procedures.
- Utilize IHC instrumentation.
- Perform filing of finished blocks and slides.
- Perform routine maintenance and cleaning of equipment and troubleshooting minor equipment failures. Document remedial actions such as repairs and repeated tests.
- Adhere to the laboratory’s quality control policies, and document all quality control activities.
- Ensure all corporate safety, quality control, and quality assurance standards are met.
- Ensure compliance with all local, federal, NY State, CLIA, and CAP regulations.
- Maintain a clean and well-organized work area.
- Responsible for training and cross-training other employees.
- Other duties, as assigned by supervisor.
We require:· Knowledge of equipment and supplies used in a laboratory.
· Knowledge of laboratory methods and techniques.
· Ability to give information and directions clearly and concisely.
· Ability to work under minimal supervision and well with others
· Basic computer skills required
· Must be detail-oriented, careful, and have high integrity and discipline
· Excellent communication skills and work well in a team environment
· H.S. diploma or equivalency required
· 1 year of experience in Histology laboratory or Medical Technologist.
· ASCP Certification (HT/HTL or MS/MLS) strongly preferred
· NYS licensure required as Histology Technician or Medical Technologist.
· Familiarity with histology procedures preferred, but willing to train.
