CLINICAL LABORATORY MANAGERNatividad is currently seeking a permanent, full-time Clinical Laboratory Manager. This is a management position responsible for the operations of the laboratory. It is distinguished from the next lower classification of Supervising Clinical Laboratory Technologist which is a supervisory classification with responsibility for overseeing the daily activities of the laboratory staff.
Examples of Duties - Plans, organizes, directs and supervises the work of the clinical laboratory staff.
- Develops fee schedules for laboratory diagnostic services and reviews and makes appropriate changes as needed; determines which tests will be referred to outside laboratories.
- Defines, implements and assesses quality control and quality assurance programs for the laboratory; assures compliance with regulations.
- Sets department objectives and financial performance goals; monitors staff and resource utilization on an ongoing basis and makes adjustments in staffing to facilitate achievement of the goals and objectives.
- Supervises and participates in personnel management activities for the laboratory; selects and hires personnel; conducts or guides subordinate supervisors in selection interviews, hiring, motivating and training staff.
- Conducts or guides subordinate supervisors in performance appraisals, documenting deficiencies developing plans for improvement and counseling employees; prepares or the preparation of disciplinary actions and grievance responses.
- Monitors laboratory work performance to determine staff resource utilization; reviews monthly work statistics and budget reports; establishes work performance standards and adjusts staffing levels as needed; provides for staff training and professional development.
- Evaluates and makes determinations on new laboratory equipment to stay abreast of new technology; assesses and selects vendors for materials and services used by the laboratory; evaluates various test methodologies for use in the laboratory.
- Administers the laboratory personnel and operating budget; approves or rejects recommended overtime within budget constraints; prepares and submits requests and recommendations for capital expenditures.
- Directs the preparation of written and computerized records, reports and correspondence concerning the operation of the department; directs the maintenance of records and files.
- Has a wide variety of contacts in person and by telephone, including physicians, administrators and managers, vendors and other industry personnel; attends meetings; schedules and holds meetings.
Minimum Qualifications:Required License: Possession of a valid license as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist issued by the State of California Department of Health Services. Pursuant to Section 1032 of the California Code of Regulations (Title 17, Chapter 2, Subchapter 1, Group 2).
Education: Completion of the course work leading to a Bachelor's degree with a major in Clinical Laboratory Science or a related field, including one year internship in an accredited clinical laboratory
OR completion of such other education and experience pattern that is accepted by the State of California, Department of Health Services for licensure as a Clinical Laboratory Technologist.
Experience: Two years of supervisory experience as a licensed clinical technologist in a clinical laboratory equivalent in type and level to the Supervising Clinical Laboratory Technologist at Natividad
OR three years of experience as a licensed clinical technologist in a clinical laboratory equivalent in type and level to a Senior Clinical Laboratory Technologist at Natividad.
Highly Desired: Master's in Healthcare Administration or Medical Technology
OR a Diploma in Laboratory Management.
