Our UT Health Tyler hospital is seeking an experienced Transfusion Services Manager. We are looking for your experience, knowledge and patient care skills in our Laboratory.

Performs all skills outlined in the generalist position description except the section supervisor is a technical expert in one area. Section managers are responsible for management of the section and participating in the management of the laboratory as a whole.

Responsibilities:
  • Acts as technical advisor for issues related to area of responsibility, including method evaluation and proficiency testing program.
  • Establishes, maintains and monitors a comprehensive departmental quality control program in conjunction with the UTHET Laboratory Quality Control policy.
  • Supervises and oversees equipment daily and preventive maintenance program, ensuring that all instrumentation within area of responsibility is adequately maintained and functioning at all times.
  • Supervises and/or participates in the development of appropriate policy and procedure manuals for all testing within area of responsibility.
  • Maintains an effective working relationship with supervised team members as well as peers and non-laboratory team members.
  • Ensures that supervised staff’s performance is acceptable by performing training, annual reviews, competency checklists, and counseling as defined by UTHET Human Resources policy.
  • Develops, proposes, and implements solutions necessary to adopt changes within department in relation to changing laboratory focus or marketing needs.
  • Schedules appropriate qualified staffing in order to ensure effective laboratory operations. Works at bench as needed.
  • Defines indicators and participates in Laboratory Performance Improvement program.
  • Performs administrative duties as required on weekends and holidays.
  • Evaluates, proposes, and implements new procedures and instrumentation as needed.
  • Understands the Laboratory Compliance Plan and follows its policies in day-to-day work. Communicates issues/information regarding compliance as defined in the Compliance Plan.

Supervision:
Supervises Transfusion Services technologists, medical technologists-generalists, medical laboratory technicians, clerical specialists or lab assistants.
 
Requirements:
Education:
  • Nationally recognized certification credentials or equivalent.
  • SBBCertification.
  • Baccalaureate degree in medical technology or in a related science with approved medical technology training is required.
Experience:
  • Five years of laboratory experience is required. Non-traditional routes to established skill level may be accepted after review of education and experience.
  • ASCP certification preferred, alternate nationally-recognized certification will be evaluated.
  • SBBCertification preferred.
Physical:
  • Must use written and verbal sources of communication.
  • Must use non-verbal visual sources of information.
  • Must use verbal auditory sources of information.
  • Must possess digital dexterity, i.e., use of computer keyboard.
  • Must make judgment calls based on data provided.
  • Subject to prolonged, extensive, or considerable standing or sitting.
  • Must have absolute integrity in the accurate performance and reporting of results.
  • Reasoning ability and good independent judgment.
  • Work is performed under basically normal working conditions, as in standard laboratory environment.
Environmental Conditions:
Works with biological, chemical and radioactive hazards. Willingness to work any shift, weekends or holidays. The laboratory is staffed 7 days per week, 24-hours per day. Ability to work under stress.
