  • NYS DOE License as a Clinical Lab Technician or Technologist (NYS -DOE eligible candidates may obtain following hire).
  • Basic laboratory skills, critical thinking, excellent oral/written communication and multitasking skills, in addition to computer proficiency.
  • Ability to work independently or with minimal supervision.

MAKE AN IMPACT
-Maintain an effective inventory of antigen typed units for patients with special transfusion requirements.
-Resolve ABO/Rh discrepancies on donor units to ensure every donation can be used to save lives.
-Contribute to patient care by performing blood product modifications, like freezing, deglycerolizing and washing rare red blood cells.

Responsibilities include:
 
  • Investigating ABO/Rh and other antigen typing discrepancies.
  • Maintaining inventory of specially typed and labeled antigen negative units.
  • Freezes/thaws rare red blood cell droplets for specialized testing.
  • Freezes, thaws, deglycerolizes and washes rare blood cell products for transfusion.
  • Performs equipment maintenance, quality control and reagent preparation.
  • Maintains accurate and organized records of laboratory testing.
