EDUCATION


Bachelors degree from regionally accredited college university including courses in biological science, chemistry and mathematics and successful completion of a NAACLS accredited Medical Laboratory Scientist program/ Medical Technologist Program ASCP certification eligible within the last five years or

MLT (ASCP) certification and an associates degree from a regionally accredited college/university, including 16 semester hours(24 quarter hours) of biological science (with one semester in microbiology, 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of chemistry (with one semester in organic or biochemistry), one semester (one quarter) of mathematics, and two years of full time acceptable clinical laboratory experience in blood banking, chemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology, and urinalysis/body fluids in the U.S., Canada or an accredited laboratory within the last four years or

Bachelors degree form a regionally accredited college/university, including 16 semester hours(24 quarter hours) of biological science (with one semester in microbiology), 16 semester hours (24 quarter hours) of chemistry (with one semester in organic or biochemistry), one semester (one quarter) of mathematics, and five years of full time acceptable clinical laboratory experience in blood banking, chemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology, and urinalysis/body fluids in the U.S., Canada or accredited laboratory within the last ten years and ASCP certification eligible.

 Associate degree or at least 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university and successful completion of a NAACLS or ABHES accredited MLT program with the last five years or

Associate degree or at least 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university, including 6 semester hours (9 quarter hours) of chemistry and 6 semester hours (9 quarter hours) of biology, and CLA(ASCP) certification or

Associate degree or at least 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university, including 6 semester hours (9 quarter hours) of chemistry and 6 semester hours (9 quarter hours) of biology, and successful completion of a 50 week U.S. military medical laboratory training course within the last ten years

or
Associate degree or at least 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university, including 6 semester hours (9 quarter hours) of chemistry and 6 semester hours (9 quarter hours) of biology, and three years full time acceptable clinical laboratory experience in blood banking, chemistry, hematology, microbiology, immunology, and urinalysis/body fluids in the U.S., Canada or an accredited laboratory within the last six years.

•Must be able to communicate verbally and in writing with healthcare workers and patients


•Must be able to work as a "team player" with other technologists, phlebotomists, medical staff, nursing staff, other hospital employees

 

Job Description:

POSITION OVERVIEW

Responsible for analysis of blood and other body fluids for use in diagnosis and treatment of disease.  The technologist is responsible for ensuring the specimens are properly handled and stored appropriately for the requested testing methodology and the at the analyzer is in good working order with he quality control within the appropriate parameters.  In addition, the technologist is responsible for reviewing the results to ensure  the values meet the clinical picture and calling all critical results.  Any issues within the laboratory including analyzer malfunctions, order issues, and specimen discrepancy will be the responsibility of the technologists to troubleshoot and resolve by investigating and/or working with technical service representatives via hot line.
