Responsibilities:As a key member of our Cellular Therapy Laboratory (CTL), you will play an integral role in performing technical procedures involved in the operation of the laboratory, including red blood cell and volume reduction, as well as cryopreservation of viable cells for transplantation.
Responsibilities will include:
- Performing all major procedures required to process, purge, cryopreserve, thaw and prepare cellular therapy products for infusion/transplantation
- Processing and cryto-preserving hematopoietic progenitor cell (HPC), parathyroid tissue and other cellular therapy products developed in the lab for transplantation
- Obtaining and sending product samples to labs for testing
- Ensuring compliance with FDA, NYSDOH regulations, AABB and FACT standards
- Analyzing tissue using flow cytometry
- Providing donor and product testing services
- Performing routine hematology laboratory duties, including staining slides, CBC and differential counts
- Performing daily, weekly, monthly and annual QC on all equipment as required by laboratory SOPs
- Obtaining and reviewing microbiology and donor infectious disease test results in order to complete donor and product qualification
- Preparing patient products and documentation for shipment to client hospitals for transplantation
- Maintaining patient files and records
QualificationsTo qualify, you must be a Medical Technologist (ASCP degree or equivalent) with at least 2 years of Stem Cell or Cellular Therapy lab experience, or, have a Bachelor’s Degree in Biology or equivalent (Master’s or other higher degree preferred). The successful candidate must be a licensed medical technologist by the New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH), and have at least 1 year experience in a Stem Cell, Cellular Therapy, or Tissue Culture Laboratory using aseptic techniques. Demonstrated competence in handling blood and/or blood products consistent with the operation of a clinical laboratory and blood bank, along with demonstrated competence with hematology procedures are a must. Superior analytical, interpersonal, and written/oral communication skills are essential, as is ability to discuss patient test results with transplant and other physicians. Knowledge of flow cytometry and hematopoietic progenitor cell assays, and familiarity with FDA and NYSDOH regulations and AABB and FACT standards are a plus. Must be willing to work a flexible shift, including evenings and on-calls.
