Job Requirements:

QUALIFICATIONS

• Education - Bachelor’s degree in a biological science or related discipline required. 
• Experience - Five or more year’s progressive working experience in clinical laboratory operations including experience in quality and compliance activities.  Supervisory experience would be beneficial.
• Strong advanced knowledge and understanding of blood bank/transfusion medicine methods, theories and applications
• Excellent organizational skills, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to make oral educational presentations, as well as presentations to other professional organizations
• Advanced knowledge and understanding of FDA, OSHA, CLIA and other federal regulations as they apply to the blood bank and cellular therapies; blood bank technical procedures, current good manufacturing practices, and quality system principles; scientific principles underlying blood banking and transfusion medicine policies and procedures

Role Specific Certifications:
• MT (ASCP) or MLS (ASCP) certification required. SBB and/or CQA (ASQ) preferred.
• Knowledge of AABB Standards and regulatory requirements (FDA, CMS), and quality systems required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Often requires computer responsibility which involves extensive use of keyboard, mouse and monitor.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/CONDITIONS

• Dayshift hours primarily
• Must be willing to travel. Travel and other work related assignments on weekends are possible.

Job Description:

~AABB is looking for a Technical Specialist to provide assistance and information about the accreditation process to both individual and institutional accredited facilities as well as AABB staff. Under the direction of the Director, the Technical Specialist is responsible for the verification and compliance of policies/programs/functions for all aspects of the Accreditation process.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

General:
• Serve as staff resource and provide support on matters relating to CLIA, HRSA, the accreditation process, quality system requirement and expectations to members, potential members, and staff in a professional, timely, and courteous manner.
• Review of Assessment Summary Report and Facility Corrective Action Plan and final determination of acceptability and issues final certificate of accreditation.
• Perform accreditation assessments as assigned.  Maintain status as accreditation program assessor by meeting all assessor qualification requirements (continuing education, etc.)
• Actively participate in the development, implementation, revision, and management of the Accreditation Program (specifically internal division administrative duties), to include accreditation database and re-write procedures and processes as needed.
• Take an active role in process improvements to the accreditation process, and offer possible solution alternatives
• Provide timely and accurate support to assigned committees/program units

Specific:
• Review and evaluate assessment summary reports and facility corrective action plans.
• Provide consultative support to facilities in composing response to summary report.
• Assist in management of volunteer assessor program activities including applications, competence and education.
• Act as a resource for facilities as they proceed through the initial accreditation process
• Manage internal administrative activities of accreditation;
• May manage, as assigned, the cooperative accreditation programs with other organizations (CMS, CAP, The Joint Commission, FACT, ASHI, etc.)
