Current CA Clinical Laboratory Scientist License required.  Minimum three (3) years of experience as a CLS required.  Ability to perform venipuncture required.  Recent experience in a Clinical Laboratory of an acute care facility and specialist certification in a laboratory department preferred.

Assists the director of the department in maintaining the highest levels of clinical and pathological laboratory services to all customers in CMHS.  Plans, manages and supervises the activities of the laboratory section assuring all practices are in accordance with accrediting agencies using proper safety precautions.  Directly supervises PM, Day and Night shift employees in the Laboratory. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws.  Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; ensuring staffing levels are adequate for the laboratory’s expected workload, calling in staff or flexing as appropriate; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.  Performs and is responsible for the completion of technical analysis in blood chemistry, hemato¬logy, blood bank, coagulation, molecular microbiology and/or urinalysis. Responsible for prompt and accurate performance and reporting of all work assigned within established turn-around times. Demonstrates the ability to work well in high volume and STAT conditions.  Oversees work performed by non CLS personnel, providing direction and technical assistance as needed.  Assists in phlebotomy duties as necessary and/or obtaining all required specimens from inpatients and outpatients of all ages. Maintains strict patient confidentiality and recognizes age specific criteria.  Performs other duties as assigned.
