Full-time, Night shift

Under close supervision, handles and prepares H&E staining of surgical and autopsy tissue for microscopic analysis utilizing manual or automated systems. Coverslips slides utilizing manual or automatic systems.  Responsible for filing and retrieval of tissue blocks or slides.  Washes and sterilizes glassware and mixes solutions.  Records work in laboratory log books with a high level of accuracy.  Documents daily QA/QC charts for laboratory equipment.  Maintains laboratory equipment and working solutions for stains.  Records work in laboratory log books and in Powerpath LIS with a high level of accuracy.  Performs all duties necessary to assist histology technicians or department staff to ensure continuity of laboratory operations.  Needed skills and techniques will be developed during first six months of employment through directed work assignments and in-service training.
  • High school diploma or equivalency required.
  • A.S., B.S. or B.A. in a biological/physical science highly desired.  
  • Previous experience in a laboratory setting is highly desired. 
  • Computer skills highly desired.
  • Must possess manual dexterity and good visual acuity.
  • Good organizational skills; detail oriented.
  • Ability to methodically record data with a very high level of accuracy.
  • Good interpersonal skills to interact effectively with co-workers and department staff.
  • Must have aptitude for technical problem solving.
  • Ability to work under close supervision.
